Hi guys!Did a recent fuel pump replacement, went well. In the process of removing trunk panels, etc., a nagging concern became more apparent. Has anyone designed a way to reinforce the fuel tank? We had a really bad rear-ender 2 years ago (with another car), and the thought of a reoccurance with the Q's fuel tank right behind the rear passenger seat is a bit disconcerting. I remember the early Mustangs getting bad press when burning fuel sprayed into the passenger compartment through the back seat rest following a rear end collision. (Granted, the Q's rear structure is about 10 times stronger than a Mustang's). I did a quick scan of older posts, but didn't find anything. Any thoughts, advise? Having an 18 wheeler (fuel tanker) tailgating me a couple of nights ago motivated me to write this. Yeah, I know, having one inch armor plating wouldn't have made any difference in this case, huh?

Safest fuel tank location. Fraud puts their under rear trunk where solid axles can rupture them. Long live exploding Pintos.

I agree with mannix. The whole reason for putting the fuel tank where it is is for safety reasons.

I would not worry about the fuel tank in the Q45. It is in a very safe place.

I had a 90 Q45 that was rear-ended by a drunken off-duty police officer who was going around 60-70 mph when he hit me. I was pulling away from a light, so my speed was around 5-10 mph at the time of impact.

When he hit me, it sounded like an explosion in my trunk. I used to be in the Army, so am familiar with explosions.

The car was a total loss. The rear end was caved in completely.

Later, I realized that I had originally planned on taking my little Civic hatchback out that night, but at the last moment decided on the Q.

"You shall hear a voice behind you saying; This is the way, walk in it". Good thing I listened to the voice.

If I had been in the Civic, the fuel tank would have ruptured and there would have been a real explosion.

The Q is a very safe car and Nissan picked the best spot for the fuel tank.

Like I said, cheap life insurance. Did you ever post pictures? I remember one member had that happen several years ago, but was mostly on the passenger side. Think it might have been a black car.
