2011 Rogue.

Power steering is intermittently going out upon start up. Shutting it off and letting it sit usually remedies the problem.

If I attempt to drive the PS light comes on. Sometime it comes back very quickly, sometimes not at all.

It has been cold here the last week. -10 to -25 C. My guess is the cold is partly responsible.

Anyone have any ideas?

Based on a bit of research the whole steering column has to be replaced to change out the motor and that its not really DIY friendly.

TIA

Unfortunately that's correct, the motor is built into the column. Not actually a huge or complicated job as long as you mark and re-match positions carefully, but the column is expensive and you'll need to get the SAS calibrated after replacement. They fail rarely, so there's a good chance of getting a good JY unit. Before condemning the motor, check the heavy-duty contacts that supply power to it. Those motors draw a ton of juice, and it's not unheard of for a little corrosion to cause resistive heating and eventually too much resistance for the motor to run reliably.

Thanks. I'll have a look at the contacts.
