I have a 1993 Q45 base model. Shouldnt it have the 1st gear start tcu?!I want to know because im going to replace it and i want to use a 1stgear start if i can! for those of you who remember i had transmission issuesin the pst which i havent had time to resolve.

I believe mine is in 3rd gear fail safe mode, it has absolutely notake-off power at all!!!! The clicking noise coming from the transmissionpan is still there.

Q45 tech suggested replacing the tcu and that was 6-8 months agoi havent had the time, but now i do!

Anyone havea first gear start tcu for my 93 Q45 at a reasonable price,i would be highly appreciative!!! thanks , SUBZERO

1993 TCU command a premium because they are the only TCU with 1st gear normal start that account for the higher 1st adn 2nd gear ratios of the early RE4.

I would get the cheapest working TCU you can find a pop it in there. I doubt your problem is with the TCU.

the problem sounds more like the throttle position sensor than the tcu.

Qship is correct, In the FSM it states that when there is weak accleration it is due to the TPS, Have your tries AT-CHECK?

I have told you I have a 1994 TCU which is first gear start but I never goi any responce.

Just call IOS or any dealership and give them your VIN and see what transmission it calls for.

Except it is very rare for a TPS to fail. They can be misadjusted or have a corroded connector, however.

One usually measures the voltage that ecu sees from tps and compares that to the voltage reported by tcu for discrepencies.

Remember the TPS voltage 0.44 [hot idle] > ~ 4.0 [WOT] is divided into 10 segments each representing a 10% increase in engine load.................idle [0.44 volts] = zero load.

These increments [load %] are shown in FSM and the up/down shift mph is graphed.

IIRC, MoD had clicking that came from the front right side of the trans when his TCU was "bad".

Might try shooting him an email and compare notes.

does the tps not effect the idle at all! reason i ask is because iassumed it wouldnt idle very good if it was tps, and my Q idles very well!! i dont know thats why im asking.

Brian had mentioned before about it being 3rd gear fail safe modeor limph mode what ever it is referred to as.That made sense to me because it seems to be in the same gear all the time, if you push it to the floor or if you slowly take off, it doesnt matter.seems like it idles at 2k rpm at only 40-45 mph if i remember correctly.thanks, subzero

Remember idle speed is a function of coolant temp below 150F, setting of IAC manual air bypass screw, TPS, MAF voltage, and cleanliness of throttle body and under throttle plate......................everything must be as new or idle will be unusual.

Without Consult and other accurate test equipment AND expert technical training and hands on experience on Q life gets hard.
