I have a 95 J30, just turned over 100k miles.

now I just had my trans flushed hoping this would fix the problem. But when the car warms up to operating temp. 1st gear become incredibly laggy. If Im at a complete stop and floor it, it still takes off like im a 95 year old grandma on the brake. Im very puzzled thinking it may be something emmissions related. But there is no CEL or anything.

has anyone ever heard of this happening or know what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance

Does this happen all the time? If you shutdown the car and restart it, does the problem disappear?

Have you managed to retrieve any trouble codes form the ECU?

hmm, I havnt tried that. Next time I drive my car I'll try that. How would I go about checking to see if any codes are coming up?

Is the car bogging or is it cutting off? Does it feel as if it was running out of gas?

No, it just feels really slow. Very slow acceleration as if I wasnt giving it gas. If that makes sense.

No codes.......hmmmm.... has the car been recently tuned or worked on?

I have been experiencing a simular problem for since i bought my J back in september. It intermittently boggs down like it's not getting enough fuel or possibly too much fuel. I have to push the accelerator to the floor to get the car to go. At first i thought maybe it was the transmission not shifting down into 1st gear when i came to a stop but that doesn't seem to be the problem. I am looking into the possiblity of the TPS sensor ( Throttle position sensor) being bad. I know this doesn't solve the problem but at least your not alone. i would love to know how to resolve this as well.

Its been doing this since I bought it over a year ago. I recent ly had the tensioner replaced, and all fluids flushed. The car has been very well maintained, and my only issue is this laggy 1st gear and the 18mpg I get on the highway

are you sure it is fully warmed up? chicago winters do quite a number on this car (i'm also in chicago) and i notice the exact same thing as you described. i don't know that much about cars, but my theory is that either the transmission or torque converter slips entirely when it is that cold. you should try to duplicate this after the car has been driven for a while (not just a quick run around the block, that doesn't count...more like after having driven home from work)

Its an all the time thing. I drove all summer to schaumberg and back for work. Im really dont think weather has anything to do with it. I 1st experienced the problem in the summer time after the long drive to or from work.

Not sure if this helps but mine did something simular one morning .. It felt like I was starting off in third gear ..Then the transmission error idiot light came on ..Freaked me out .. pulled over and shut it down .. Checked the fluid , seemed fine .started it back up and it was back to normal .I guess the transmission cpu flipped out .needed a reboot so to say .

yeah, I guess the only thing I can do is wait until I come home for spring break and take it to the dealer and have it inspected.....God I hate dealerships
