Well I was thinking about waisting the money I had on suspension mods since with these new tires I get some FAT bodyroll...so what would you get to build you suspension on a $1,000 budget?

you should search but its okay.

for sure some of the better things you could do would be lowering it with stiffer springs and with more money good quality coilovers from a reputable company. remember most coilovers driven daily require overhauling after an average of 2 years more or less depending on road surfaces and the driver thats quite a bit of money.

upgraded adjustable sway bars would help a ton with body roll and the same with strut tower bars.

going a little crazier would involve stitch/seam welding, multipoint roll cages with plates, foaming up the car with urethane which is all feasible with less money its mostly man labor. all the other bars, rods, arms aren't really necessary until something breaks then you have an excuse to upgrade or you need adjustability in certain areas. if youre good with powertools you can make your own fender brace with not too much money with stuff available at home depot that can save you well over 200 bucks. you can also make other bars and stuff for the interior of the car also.

im guessing you have not much on your car so far. id recommend either maybe yellow konis or agx +springs and maybe some aftermarket sway bars thatll be somewhere in the ~$1000 range or just a set of coilovers if youre going to be doing more than just some basic upgrades.

Coilovers

You get get Megans for $1k, despite their non-JDM-tyteness, everyone who owns them (from what I hear) loves them.

I would stay away from used coilovers if I were you....

Okay, I've looked around on a couple sites and found these:

Suspension Techniques F&R sway bars - $250Eibach Sportlines - $220KYB AGX 4-way adjustable - $450

Total - $920

Would this be a good buy? I'm pretty sure this would eliminate my body roll problem, and give me some pretty decent handling. I'll make my own STB's btw.

Get the prokit instead of sportline and you'll be good to go.

i prefer adjustable sway bars but i guess its good enough if you dont want to mess with it. yeah definitely youll notice the difference.

i think the eibach springs dont give an aggressive enough drop. check out the espelir asd . your choice though.

Nismo S-Tune coilovers $685http://www.trademotion.com/par...=3078

JDM K's/USDM HICAS Rear Sway bar (21mm) ~$50. Hunt on eBay.

Whiteline Sway bar endlink and D bar bushings.~$20http://www.pdm-racing.com

Tein Hard tie rods ~ $150 anywhere

eBay STBs ~$40-$50

There ya go. Couple that with some sticky rubber and you are good to go. I have a bit more than that, but that is about 90% of my setup and it is amazing.

I'd get some TC rods. They're always blown and it made a hell of a difference on my car. Tein TCrods and the Tein basic coilovers. You could get that for $1,000. Thats just me but then agian my brothers friend hooks me up with 20% off Tein retail. Heeltoeauto.com. He can't give out the 20% to everyone but he's a nice guy maybe he could do something. Be warned its mostly Honda stuff.

I just realized, $1k is too low!! What to do with $1k? Save it until you have more $ to throw at the car!

Working on a car with only X-amount of dollars is too hard.

Do an ES bushing kitKYB GR-2Eibach ProkitParts installed and 4wheel alignment

there's a grand right there and we haven't even gotten technical!! Damn..

Correcto.

Spacers are a nice upgrade, and cheap, but not as big of an impact as TC rods.

Car handles like its on rails, almost like a dream car!

Several of NICO's sponsors carry them....

1989-94 Nissan 240SX (S13) approximate drop: Front 1.4, Rear 1.1spring rates: Front 5.0, Rear 4.5 (metric)

1995-98 Nissan 240SX (S14)approximate drop: Front 1.4, Rear 1.0spring rates: Front 5.0, Rear 4.2 (metric)

I didn't read the whole thread, but here's my personal opinion:

Tein S-Tech's (under $150)KYB GR-2 (under $150)Poly sway bar bushings (rear only ($30)

Spend the rest on TIRES and track time.

MR = Megan Racing

A lot of you guys have recommend GR2s in this thread. Is the adjustability of the AGX kinda overrated for a daily driver? Or are the GR2 just a better value ($300 cheaper than AGX!)??

I'm having a hard time deciding to replace my shocks since the stock ones are in good shape. I think I'll add swaybays and STBs and replace the shocks and springs later.

I have been doing a little reading in this book my bro got me called "Car Hacks and Mods, For dummies"

Quite an interesting book despite the title. It says in the book not to lower your car more than an inch. I dont have an exact quote on me, but I'm 99% sure thats what it said. What is your opinion on this? I'd reeeeally like to have my car lower than that.

Those GR2's sound pretty good for under $150. are they crap? should I save for the AGX's?

Not crap, but neither of those is great. Get some more info from KYB on the settings of the both, and then match to a spring that you can live with. I just decided to leave out the guess work and Nismo match the shocks/springs for me and that is why I purchased the S-Tunes. I also have TC rods and subframe spacers, and YES, the TC rods offered much more of a noticeable upgrade as opposed to the spacers. I run ProjectSilvia TC rods FYI. Just make sure that you are getting components that are matched and will actually work, not that you are getting what will look the best or is the cheapest.

IMHO Eibach/AGX and Tein Basics are a waste of money. Unmatched combos that will give a nice drop, but are not that well integrated. Get the S-Tunes...you WILL thank me.

Theyre cheaper than 'coilovers' cause theyre not compression/rebound adjustable. I think theyre height adjustable. Its more like a matched set of springs and shocks as Rico said.

but they sound like a good idea....do you have a variety of spring rates to choose from? also how much is the drop?

(sorry to jack the thread but i'm curious)

Don't touch eibach prokit, those springs are the spawn of satan. My car is like half an inch lower and barely has any less body roll than before. (paired with tokico hps).

I have 3 words of advice...

coilovers, coilovers, coilovers.

i was in the same situation couple of months ago. I had $800 to spend on suspension and didn't know what to do....was gonna get some sway bars and rods but came across a set of brand new D2 for $600...i was very happy

Coilovers WILL make substantial different in handling..after the coilover the body roll's almost non-existent now on my car

The S-Tunes are matched springs and dampers. No need for adjustment when they are already dialed in for you. They were way more when they were realeased (when I bought them, I had to call Nismo US headquarters and pay out the a$$ for them).
