My front pax seat ('99) is defective. I am unable to get it to return to the upright position. It will recline, but only come back part way. The motor will only run a few seconds before it gives up. I think it's the motor as opposed to something obstructing the mechanism. I will either have to have it repaired, dig into it myself, or replace it. It looks like a royal pain to disassemble and I have no interest in it.

I found a guy on Craiglist who is advertising seats 2000-2002 seats. Does anyone know if there is a difference in the seats which would prevent me from simply bolting a new one in?

Thanks.

I think they will bolt right in without any issues, however, they are likely to look different and you'd have to match up the color. My advise, if the leather is still in good shape get somebody to fix it. Power seats are amazingly reliable, my 84' Z is on all original motors (knocking on wood as we speak) and my 97' Q power is still very strong.

If the leather is weak and you think you can find a color match the only diff might be if you get Anniversary edition seats I think they have that on the seat where the Infiniti is on the standard 2nd generation.

If the seat is in good shape, take it to an shop that has a good contact with an tuck and roll guy. that is what I've done in the past with little tears in my 300ZX, get the mechanic to R and R the seat, get the tuck and roll guy to do the leather work and then mechanic replaces the seat.

Thanks Jeff.

The leather on both seats is in good shape with the exception of the side panels. It looks to me like Infiniti used nauga on them. The P.O. used to kick the drivers side with regularity and the pax side has a few marks as well. Nothing heinous, just not pristine as I'd like.

I'm on the road but when I return I'll take a look at the FSM and see how much work is involved to gain access to the reclineometer. If not too much of a goat rope, I may get involved. If it's a mess, I may take it to an interior specialist. I figure that they routinely tear into seats so it may be the way to go.

Pain in the neck. But, the car has been relatively trouble free for 30 months. I guess I am due.
