Forgive me if this has been touched on. But I couldn't find it.

I have a '99 Sentra with 100,000 miles and an automatic trans. My question is this. How do I drain the fluid and how many quarts does it take? What type of synthetic fluid is best? I was thinking of changing the fluid a few times with cheap fluid then finish with synthetic.

Thanks

Welcome aboard!

There should be a drain plug on the driver side of the transmission. You will have to use just the ratchet head to remove the plug. This is how it works on the manual transmission, I wouldn't think the auto would be any different. Normally 4 qts is required to fill the transmission. I believe auto transmission also have a filter that may need to be changed as well. There should be a plate on the bottom of the transmission that is held on buy quite a few screws, the filter should be located in there, if there actually is one to change. Look through your owners manual and it should outline exactly what is needed. It should also give you information on what type of transmission oil to use. I use Redline shock proof gear oil, but my transmission sees quite of bit of abuse over what stock should be.
