1999 QX4 Security Alarm

Hello again: I have a 1999 QX4 and the security alarm is going off in the middle of the night. The neighbors are complaining about it and I do not know why it is going off. I honestly do not think anyone is trying to get into it. Now I have gone out there and pushed, shoved and shook it, tried lifting the door handles and I cannot make it go off myself. What could be causing this and is there anyway to disable the alarm without leaving the doors unlocked?

I thought it might have been an animal or something hopping on the hood but after shaking it myself trying to make it go off, that cannot be the case.

Ahh that is embarrassing.

There are several switches that can cause the alarm to go off without warning. There is a sensor under the hood that is mounted to a bracket that if bent may cause the alarm to think the hood is opened. Also a door sensor is pretty common. If the rubber boot is broken,missing, or deteriorated in any way this may effect contact.

Try performing these easy checks first and keep us posted on what you find I will do a little research to see if there is anything else common that you should check.
