My 99 QX4 has 163k miles on it and everytime I accelerate after a stop I almost reach 4,000 rpms. I don't accelerate hard at all its like it has a hard time shifting gears (automatic btw) and it'll make a rumble/grinding sound when it tries to shift into 3rd. It started doing this about two months after I bought it. I bought this car used and its in really good shape. It's been babied and garage kept its whole life with regular maintenance. I've only put 3k miles on it since I've had it. I've heard that a new fuel pump could fix this or I might need to add more transmission fluid or change some filters. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know! Also, would a tune up help with anything?

If your vehicle is having a hard time up-shifting and those shifts are hard then your first priority is to evaluate the condition of the transmission. You say that it's been "babied" and had regular maintenance, so I assume the previous owner provided you with service records. When was the last transmission service performed?

No he didn't provide me a service record but couldn't I just look up my VIN number and see the service record?

Look up the VIN number where and using whose records? If the previous owner had the car regularly serviced at an Infiniti or Nissan dealer then they would have records of what had been done to it. but that is almost beside the point. I would have the transmission evaluated now.

This is exactly what mine was doing before my transmission died... Also in the last days before it died 1st became 2nd, 2nd became 3rd, 3rd became 4th, and since 4th thought it was actually 5th, 5th would never engage leaving me at 4K RPM @ 70MPH.

I suggest you start trying to prevent the failure by researching what exactly is going on inside the transmission to cause these issues. Talk to a master transmission specialist. I think it may be shift solenoid related or maybe even something to do with the valve body... I am very sorry to hear that you are dealing with these issues :(

If your transmission fails I would be MORE than happy to walk you thru changing the transmission out for a yard transmission. Its tough as hell, not gonna lie but if you have the right tools anyone can do it. I bought mine WITH transfer case together for $850 and it is absolutely flawless! If you go down that road text me @ 706-768-7506, my name is Michael.
