I'm trying to add an A/T temp gauge to my Qx4 and I can't seem to find a place to do it. I've been looking around and doing some research, but the only two suggestions I've found for a new sender location have been in a pressure service port (can't find one), or to drill a new hole in the pan (really don't want to do that). Anyone done this before, or have any ideas? Trying to get this done before this weekend when I'll be towing a fairly large trailer cross-country.

With the stock temp sensor in the pan, and no other ports I can find I'm really stuck.

FYI I already have a transmission cooler installed, so I figure that I'll be fine, but I would really prefer to know what is going on (maybe I won't have to turn O/D off) in the transmission. I also prefer to know about problems before they break expensive things :D I would add transmission temp to the things I'd want to monitor while off-roading too :D

I already checked out this post, but since this A/T doesn't look like ours it didnt' help much:

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks,

I too have heard about this mysterious port, and heard of people having trouble finding it.

Have you considered placing it in line with the supply or return hoses?

I have a mechanical gauge, which is about 1 in. long and 1/2 in wide. It cant' fit in line on a 3/8 in. hose :/ So my choices is go electrical, and tap into the existing, find a port, or make a port. Unless anyone can think of anything I missed. :gotme

Just put a reducer on either end of the gauge:

Then place it in-line with the hose.

Unless you have a spare pan, I don't recommend making your own port. But if you find the mysterious service port, let us know.

I don't think any type of fitting would make this sensor fit in a tube. Its meant to screw into a threaded hole in the transmission case.

Far right piece in the above link that is basically a really short pole.

You should be able to thread that into a tee fitting (pictured in above link), which you can install in-line. It looks like both the sensor and the tees have male threads, but perhaps the brass piece just to the left of the sensor can be used as a coupling. If not, perhaps you can find a coupling at an auto parts store or online.

Usually these aftermarket parts are meant to be universal, so you should be able to find something to make it work.

Well the transmission shop I took it to can't find a place to install it either (so I'm going to say that port doesn't exist if they can't find it). So looks like i'm left with only the T option. The instructions say that it should be surrounded by fluid for an accurate reading. Guess I'll give it a try and see how it goes.
