First post,I don't see many posts for my car, 1999 q45T, is this the odd ball? I just bought it and love it. It does have 90,000 and I'm wondering if there are any issues to take care of that I don't know about. I've flushed the brake fluid and checked with my local Ford dealer about a power steering and tranny flush. The tranny fluid was nice and red, radiator looks good, but power steering fluid is dark though. I live 2+ hours from my closest Infiniti dealer and my brothers and I have turned a few wrenches. So I think I can handle some repair items myself. Would like to purchase a factory service manual if someone here could point me to one I would appreciate it.

Thanks

You could pay $20 for an account with http://www.infiniti-techinfo.com and download FSM pdf files. I don't know if they still offer FSM for '99 and older cars. If they don't, email me and I'll point you to a place where you can find the older ones.

Welcome to NICO.

I wouldn't call any Q rare perse, but most of the "regulars" on here are 90-96 Q45 owners. These are completely different cars.

There is a growing contingent of FY33 (97-01 Q45) owners, so feel free to search around and ask questions, I'm sure someone will and can help.

And get the TSB while you are there also. There are a ton of them.

I guess you could say theres just not as many enthusiasts into the later Qs, mainly because they are still newish and often still covered under warranty....

I think your on the right track however, get those fluids changed!! Thats an excellent start for the time being.

If the PS fluid is a dark red color, then it is perfectly fine. Dexron III/Mercon ATF Fluid is used in the PS system.

Hi, welcome!! My '98 has 91k on it now. You'll need to replace all the suspension bushings, and most likely your shocks/struts if they weren't done. Spark plugs, and all your fluids should take care of it for you! Are you planning to mod your Q or just restore it to stock, new condition? Post some pics when you can.

I have a 97' with 80k on it, you're not alone. The 97-01 crowd is gaining momentum so keep posting! Faulkdesigns (Kevin) is our fearless leader on getting good aftermarket suspension parts (since they don't make aftermarket high performance shocks and spings). I am personally planning to drop so $$ into mine soon with new shock and struts.

These are great cars, smooth and very reliable. I have had exactly ONE repair in 5 years of ownership, the gas door opening on its own and it was fixed under warranty. Also, I think the 99' had the Platinum tipped spark plugs so you may not need to change them until 100k...anyone know for sure when they cut over to those?

Technically true, but I changed mine at 72K to prevent galling and to replace with 6 heat range for TX, and I am glad I did. Change them out for new NGK ones only.

Paxtonman,

Turns out the online files from Infiniti are good only for 2000 or newer cars, so I'd also appreciate your alternative source for the pdf service files/service bulls. I also have a '99 Q45t so can't download from the Nissan site.

Thanks

also, does anyone know the torque value in either nm or ft lbs for spark plugs? I'm going to change and try to find a decent price on the NGK laser platinums (OEM).

BTW, at 60k we changed to new plugs, probably Bosches, but definitely not the NGK pricey ones. The car still runs great, but I suspect these new plugs are responsible for a drop in mpg from 17-18 to 13-14. Thus the change back to the OEM plugs.

Not true, they go back to 1994. Try to navigate it again. Navigation is not intuitive.

Bosch platinum plugs are known to drop their electrodes and destroy VH series engines. Is that cheap to you?

http://www.everythinginfiniti.com or http://www.sparkplugs.com have the correct plugs at a great price. The torque is on the boxes, 18 ft. lbs. - 28ft. lbs., I think.

Get the manual and all TSB.

CLARIFICATION: You do not want the manual on CD-ROM, you want the manual for the Acrobat reader, a file with a pdf extension.

How true is this? I have had the Bosch platinums in my car for 15,000 miles now.

How can ONLY the VH series have a problem with these plugs and they are fine in other cars? I don't understand.

if you read the previous posts, someone actually talked to a BOSCH ENGINEER nad they said that those plugs should not be put in the Q45 engine. Period.

If you *must* go cheaper, go with the iridiums, im sure those are probably nearly as good, but its IMPOSSIBLE to go wrong with the factory platinums.. At $60/set from Joe and you only replace them 60k miles, its hard not to just stick with that having the peace of mind.

You happen to know the part number for the iridiums and the NGK's for the 4.1?

You really need to read the previous posts if you want to know about your car. There is no shortcut.

I dontthink so.. Personally, i would stick with the laser platinums, but if there was one backup choice, it would be the iridiums, as they are basically the same design.....

Wes, the Iridium IX were slightly cheaper (although, a good bit more expensive in Japan- go figure).

OK, Got the NGK Laser Plats, 2647. 9.98/each at my local Autozone. Thanks for the advice and the torque values, as the plug boxes only give # of turns past finger tight. (I'll use both references and hope they overlap). Thanks!

They are cheaper form the other sources.

Anyway, be sure they are Laser Platinum PFR5G-11.

All 8 plugs are now changed to NGK Laser Platinums, #2647. What was interesting was the condition of the old plugs I just removed (with only 17,000 miles). The platinum electrode on every plug was gone! Burned up! These were pretty expensive plugs that were speced for the Q45, but after seeing their condition, I have to echo the notes of caution posted above (about using anything other than the OEM NGK plugs). I'm amazed the car ran as well as it did with them. Can't wait to see my mileage go back up to near 20 (from 14 or so recently). BTW, following NGK's torque recommendation (1/2 to 2/3 turn past finger tight) yields about 15 ft lbs using a torque wrench. And note that it's a real chore to get a torque wrench on some of those plugs. I think you can get them close enough using NGK's suggestion and no torque wrench.

Hi, I am the proud new owner of a 97 Q45t. It has 120k on it but runs and looks good. I have done the basics- brakes, rotors, fluids, had a fuel pump fail, and had to get both knock sensors replaced the week I got it to pass emmisions ($1300 at the dealer, ouch).

I want to replace the struts and any other suspension parts that may be worn at this stage, but I cant find any anywhere. A good friend has a 95 Q45 and put Eibachs all around for under 500. Eibachs web site didn't have anything for the 97.

Thanks for the help

No aftermarket shocks, however, email Falkdesigns (maybe he'll see this thread) as he has the hookup for aftermarket shocks/springs for the Y33

Or go to http://www.everythinginfiniti.com for OEM.

Falk has a spring post somewhere abouts.

Just look up in this post, Kevin (Faulkdesigns) posted a message. He can hook you up with lowering springs and shocks that come from japan. Otherwise you're sentenced to stock replacements.

BTW, I have a 97' with 80k and still love it.
