Since the front struts cost $900 for the pair on my 1999 Q45t, is it possible to replace them with the basic model struts instead of the active suspension struts? I am not interested in having the "active" suspension.
BTW, while unscrewing a 12MM screw, I broke it off in the back of the rotor which is connecting a wire to the rotor. The wire is still connected to the rotor. Anyone know what that wire does? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Mike

@vmullane, Thank you for your reply and the link.

Looks like I'm stuck buying the front pair of struts for $900+, any alternatives at all that doesn't involve welding?

Do a search on the site if I recall they make a pair of KYB struts that will work. I'm not 100% for sure if that was for the 2nd gen or not. I believe the non active suspension will work. I know you cant just bolt up the non-active car with an active suspension.

*EDIT: Check out memoryfab.com you'll have to call I think but they sell a set of KYB SR's for around $650 I think.

You can indeed use the KYB SR Specials to replace the active struts. I know a few people that did it. The catch is that you cannot buy them from your local auto supply. Just hit up memoryfab.com guys, just call them. It might take 2-4 weeks for delivery but they will charge you around $500-600 for a set, with rears too. If you haven't replaced the rears trust me they are shot, they usually go before the fronts. These are great and the car will handle better than ever before. I have them on my 97' and love them.

I do not believe so, from what I remember the other person that did this had them bolt right in. Call the memoryfab guys and ask them.

Oh crap, that is terrible!! That was the only real reliable source of them that I knew of, I got mine years ago for nearly double the price from onetongarage and I had to shell out the $800 in cash up front.

Did they know if you can at least install without any welding?
