The Q45 that I bought for $700 is back on the road. I've got about $1600 invested at this point but that keeps dropping with every part i sell off my parts car.

I shot some video of it and also recorded the exhaust sound after cutting off the rear muffler.

Here's the video of the car and the exhaust modification. sorry for the qulaity, I shot it with a digital camera.

No film school. How'd you know? LOL

I'm driving the car as its probably only worth $5000 AT MOST and its too nice to try and make $3000 on-if I could get it. It has a "rebuilt" title which really doesn't mean much considering the damage done but I'm sure it will scare off buyers-so it becomes my car.

I had do some clever schemes to get it inspected and titled and there were a few moments when I thought i'd be stuck with a car that was not able to be registered.

Nice work Andy. I like the sound...just a tad of racket but not too much. Pretty work.

The "rebuilt" title which essentially said this car was "beyond repair" and then someone repaired it which is in this case me.

I've heard that a rebuilt title lowers the car's value about 25 to 30 percent.

However, this car is a perfect example of why a rebuilt car is a good deal. even with my average work the car is still nicer than most and the corners I cut don't really matter.

Andy, you rock. Your hands on work is at the very least comparable(I'd bet better) than the crap rehabbers that sell salvage cars on Ebay. Great work. Can't even tell from the vid any damage existed before...nice panel fitment as well. Boris

I just sold the rear -strut bar from my 1997 parts car which takes me to $4300 of parts sold on my $1200 eBay 97 parts car. With all of the repairs and parts for my 1999, I now have a 1999 Q45 touring for -$10.

Thats right, I spent $4290 on my 97 parts car AND the 99 and have made $4300 on 97 parts.

If I sell another $450 worth of parts I will pay for my tow dolly as well.

Took about a year to sell the parts, with lots of activity early on and sproradic requests now. I do have to say that you can never tell which parts people want-one example? The plastic air tube that passes HVAC air through the center console to the rear seat.

Its a good day.

Congratulations and glad I could help, But they might have needed that HVAC tube to add rear air ducts to a G50.

Very respectable accomplishment.. Do you think it was worth the effort? Parting out a car is a huge PITA but im sure in your case it was worth it because you used the parts to fix your own car..

Efforts were worth it but you would have to have the ability to fix car yourself and to store the parts car(s) in order to make it worthwhile. I've grown tired of looking at the parts car on my parking pad but can't live with the thought of scrapping it only to have someone ask about some crazy part that is worth $50 to them and have that happen repeatedly.

Thanks for the props guys!-A

agreed, thats the worst thing is to see your parts car sitting there every day.. next time I get a parts car im going to strip it down to NOTHING and then take the torch to the frame and cut it into itty bitty pieces..

Well, I've passed another milestone on my 99 Touring an 97 parts car. I have now broken even on every dollar spent (97 parts car, 99 touring, miscellaneous parts, tow dolly, gas and Florida turnpike fees, McDonalds for me and my son picking up the parts car in West Palm Beach etc etc)

I have officially turned a profit. Here is a rough breakdown in costs:1999 Q45 touring (wrecked) $700 +various parts for 99-$2140+1997 Q45 parts car-$1450 (gas and fees to pick up)+used tow dolly, with me adding new wheels, tires and lights-$550=$4840

I have sold $4920 dollars worth of parts=

$80 profit for nearly two years of selling parts and storing a junked car on my parking pad, and repairing the 99 Q45. Was it worth it? Of course! I have a free car and its been great fun thus far.

Hey Andy,

I'm glad to see that you broke even, and I'm glad to have helped! Sorry that I haven't been back for more parts but my car has been pretty solid since my initial purchase and repairs. What's left of it??

Hey do you still have the cup holder on the 97' mine broke awhile ago and I'm not willing to spend $150 for a new one. The little plastic holder that drops down broke off.

Let me know if you have that part and would sell it cheap.
