I can understand the desire to want a little more muscle sound
However its a good chunk of money for no performance, maybe you can get a muscle car CD to play

i deleted my suitcase muff & ran the straight pipes w/tips. i've found it to be non-intrusive except for when i really accelerate hard. i haven't (at least that i've heard) had the desel poppin sounds. check out this vid...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lObSM90SD9M this is almost exactly what my car sounds like & I LOVE IT! i doubt i gain any signifigant performance, but hey, it opens the rear of the exhaust up just a tad & that's always good. as for your original question about general mods for the y33 there are waaaay more options than i originally imagined upon purchasing the car. not as many in the way of flat out performance, but lots in the way of visuals/handling. & as Q45 tech told me, "hey, it'll out-run a police car. what else do you want?" also, as much i hate to say it, use the search function. it really does have an answer to just about any question you'll come up with. i'm only posting this much because i'm still a noob, but in the month or two i've been on board i've performed about 5 or 6 mods with the help of info from the members. check the link for some pics of my '98. good luck.
