If the Q has 100,000 miles you are somewhat off the hook for felony emission tampering [replacing oem cats with aftermarket units].

Unfortunately the very very expensive dual exhaust system is very high flow for the small engine size and output.......................so replacing deleting components doesn't buy you much for the time or expense.

If you just do straight pipes from the baffles (the two under the car that look like mufflers) and delete the muffler, its will be pretty raspy, and pop on deceleration. The best solution I have seen is to add a noisier muffler after the baffles.

I can understand the desire to want a little more muscle sound

However its a good chunk of money for no performance, maybe you can get a muscle car CD to play

Best bet might be fabricating some stainless steel headers as the USM are pretty not conducive to a high flow rate.

Read the VH45/41DE Forum.

None have been done on a street car that passes emissions.

Not desiel as in truck sound, deceleration is what he meant as in when slowing down.

i deleted my suitcase muff & ran the straight pipes w/tips. i've found it to be non-intrusive except for when i really accelerate hard. i haven't (at least that i've heard) had the desel poppin sounds. check out this vid...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lObSM90SD9M this is almost exactly what my car sounds like & I LOVE IT! i doubt i gain any signifigant performance, but hey, it opens the rear of the exhaust up just a tad & that's always good. as for your original question about general mods for the y33 there are waaaay more options than i originally imagined upon purchasing the car. not as many in the way of flat out performance, but lots in the way of visuals/handling. & as Q45 tech told me, "hey, it'll out-run a police car. what else do you want?" also, as much i hate to say it, use the search function. it really does have an answer to just about any question you'll come up with. i'm only posting this much because i'm still a noob, but in the month or two i've been on board i've performed about 5 or 6 mods with the help of info from the members. check the link for some pics of my '98. good luck.http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2424834
