1999 Primera 2.0 slx auto, gearbox problem

I bought this car just two weeks ago for the huge sum of £195, and have so far covered nearly 5000miles with not even a squeak or rattle, no loss of oil or water and drives almost like new. What a bargain i thought.

I was super happy with it until about an hour ago.

Driving to the shops, pulling gently out of a junction, a large thump from the gearbox and it jumped out of gear (just like when a manual car jumps out of gear).

Now the car will not now go into any gear including reverse, the engine still sounds fine and when you drop it into drive or reverse it feels like it has gone into gear but when you push the accelerator nothing happen it just revs.

When you drop it into park it crunches just like crunching the gears on a manual car, when you roll it in neutral you get a gentle thump thump thump from straight in front of the driver.

I never had an auto before although i have driven plenty, I hope this is nothing serious because I don't have much spare cash to sort it but fear it could be.

Any advice before it has to go to a mechanic tomoro would be very much appreciated.

could it be CV joint or drive shaft gone, if so how do i tell?

You would have to get underneath the car to see if it's one of those. I would take it to the shop and have them take a peek at it in case something else was damaged when the incident occured.
