1999 Maxima won't start

The other day the car was working fine and all of a sudden it will not start. I think it may have something to do with the security system since I did not press the button on my remote, but instead manually unlocked the door with the key.

Is there anyway to reset the alarm?

We tried jumping the car and that did not work. Also, the lights in the car work but go off when you turn the key. Could it be the ignition switch is broke?

sounds more like the starter died. if it is a security issue the security lamp will saty illuminated, however the engine wouls still crank. you can try banging on the starter while someone else cranks on the car to see if the starter will free up. (at work i replace starters in maximas all the time)

does the car crank at all? is it a factory or aftermarket alarm system? all the aftermarkets i have worked on and installed (dont have much experience with factory) will not send power to the starter if the system is active. does the starter solenoid click?

I figured it out. The alarm needed to be deactivated before I could jump start the car. The battery was dead so I hooked some cables up to the battery, pressed the remote for the alarm, and then I could jump start it.

Two things went wrong at once I guess.

I think I am having a same problem. My 99 Nissan Maxima has been running fine. After I stopped a convenient store for 5 minutes. Then I started my car, once it did not start I quickly tried it again. It seemed screwing up the security. Now it did not start. I noticed some weir noise everytime I use the remote key to lock/unlocked the door.

I saw you mentioned about to deactivated alarm before jumping. How do you mean by deactivating alarm. Is it simply unlock the door by the remote key? Thanks
