I have a 1999 Maxima SE. The automatic transmission is having some problems. It is stuck in first gear. It will shift into reverse but wont shift past first. It will redline and no shift. I am thinking it is the torque converter.

Could it be something electrical? I have a Digital multi meter that I could check some sensors with. Does anyone have an intel that could help me out? Thanks I really appreciate it.

start by disconnecting your battery for 15 mins to clear your memorized shift points. then reconnect it and test drive slowly to see if it shifts into second. that's all i've got

check for codes in the ecu with a scan tool. it might just be a bad shift solenoid. can you up shift manually?i strongly doubt it's your torque converter.

It doesn't up shift manually. I will try disconnecting the battery for 15min to see what it does. If it is a shift solenoid what would I check to see if it was bad? Thanks

What if you put it in "2" from a stop and take off. What happens?
