I bought a 1999 maxima gle a couple of weeks ago, in barely running condition. I replaced 4 coils, and it was running on 5 cylinders. The computer had a bad driver for one of the coils, so I bought a replacement computer from a junk yard. I made sure that all of the numbers matched. I just got the computer today, and plugged it in and tried to start it. It just cranks. To be sure that it was in the computer, I put the old computer in, and it fired right up. I doubt that the new computer is bad, I believe that I have a security problem. Where do I go from here?

I forgot to mention: The starter does engage, it just wont start. With the key off, the security light blinks every couple of seconds. With the key on, the security light stays illuminated.

ok. question. on the key to your maxima. does it have a blue square on the black part of the key near the actual metal that inserts into the car. If so, you have a chip and when you change the ecu out, you may have to get the keys reprogrammed.

I was fairly sure that there was a 99 and then a 99.5 which had many of the parts of the 2000 maxima. I thought the beginning 99 didnt have the intellegent key and the 99.5 did.

I took the car to the dealership today and had them flash the new computer, and the car runs great now. It was the NATS system keeping it from starting.

The 99's had many of the 2000 parts. I have a 99 (not 99.5) and it has a chipped key
