1999 Infiniti QX4 Thermostat Replacement and Repair Manual Needed

Greetings everyone! Am new here and first of all, I did try the search function before posting this. It returned a couple hits but one was not detailed enough and the other, the links did not work. Anyway...

I believe the thermostat in my 1999 QX4 has finally given up and needs to be replaced. I have been unable to find a repair manual for this particular vehicle anywhere. I am assuming the thermostat is located at the opposite end of the bottom radiator hose but in order to get to that it looks like I am going to have to remove a bunch of stuff just to get to it.

Does anyone have detailed instructions on how to do this? and does anyone know where I can get a repair manual for it at a reasonable price?

I am not a mechanic and am afraid to start removing brackets and things without a manual or detailed instructions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the links Brian. The /FSM/QX4 directory does not have the 1999 manual, only 1997 & 1998. I am really hoping someone here will come forward and offer to upload it to the site or to me. I do not understand why it is so difficult to find.

I already have the new thermostat and gasket sealant but I appreciate the parts link just the same, I will bookmark it for future repairs.

Still seeking help with this issue.

Welcome To Nico.

Although there is no QX4 ESM yet on Nico we do have the 99 Pathfinder and they share the same motor and almost all of the ESM sections are the same. Here is the LC section of the 99 manual. Page LC-10 lists the exact procedure for removing the thermostat and the related hardware.

If I may ask why are you suspecting the thermostat?

Mission accomplished.... Problem Solved !!!

The reason I suspected the thermostat was because the temp gauge would go from cold to full hot rather quickly and once it got began to warm up while driving it would have a short surge of power then stall, short surge of power and stall repeatedly. Also, the heater would only blow cold air.

I pulled it into the garage, let it cool down completely, opened the radiator cap and started it up, as soon as it began to warm up it would spit coolant and steam from the radiator rather than circulating the coolant.

Anyway, after replacing the thermostat it seems to be just fine now.

Would still like to have the correct manual and will keep watching here for it. meanwhile I will finish downloading the other sections of the '99 Pathfinder as you suggested.

** Edit ** The most difficult part of this job was removing the Fan Shroud. Surprisingly, it went back in a lot easier than it came out.

I'm glad to hear that that worked for you. Hope that's the root cause.

As for the lack of ESMs, I have no idea where they came from they were here when I got here and almost everything is the same. If you have any other questions feel free to email me or post it up here and I will do my best to help you out.
