How do I remove the center console to get at the hand brake?Brake Light stays on solid even though I never use the hand brake.

It came on a week ago and stayed on. Has come on before, but went out when the weather warmed up.

Welcome to NICO.

The trim piece that surrounds the shifter is held in place by metal clips on the bottom and two plastic bits that hook under the center cascade trim (where the radio is). Use a flathead screwdriver wrapped in a rag or something similar to pry the bottom loose then lift and pull out from under the center cascade trim.

There are two screws under that trim piece, and two more screws under snap-covers on the lower rear sides of the center console itself.

After the screws are out, just lift the console up and off.

Have you checked your brake fluid level?

The light comes on for more than just the e-brake being applied. It did in my wife's celica. We were concerned until I checked the fluid level and realized it was low.

If it is low, you should check your to see if they need to be replaced as well as check for any leaks.

It's more likely that the fluid sensor is tripping the light than the parking brake "magically" got tighter.
