Way back in 2002 I purchased a 2001 Altima GXE Limited and drove it for a while enjoying it greatly. I have made friends with a handfull of families that are refugees from Rowanda. When they started car shopping I try to get them all to buy 1999-2001 Altima's because they are fantastic cars. My buddy bought a 2001 that needed a door a while back and we fixed it up together. Thread here.... where I jacked Bubba's thread sorry man buh-bye-altima-coupe-t578178.html

Then an autozone delivery truck hit him and ripped off the front bumper. He didn't tell me about it and a few days later the motor scrabbled due to timing chain failure. Autozone had already paid him a little bit and will not pay him more so hes stuck. I found this 1999 Altima SE Limited on craigslist for $600 with supposedly a bad timing chain. I tried to buy it but someone beat me to it. I told the guy my story about my buddy and he said it was gone. A few days later I get a text back from him saying the guy that bought it can't come up with the money do I want it. I did. It had zero codes and the motor actually spun off the starter so I was hoping that it was not the timing chain. Once it was apart I discovered it was the timing chain after all and when it blew the head gasket blew too. I cleaned it all up and put it back together with a new chain and gasket. I'm going to sell it to my buddy for what I'm into it for. I drove it about 40 miles today and I LOVE this car! Nissan should start making these again!!!

Have you seen a cleaner 1999 anything? Now that I've driven it abit I want to keep it for me LOL

the oil on top of the cylinder heads is assembly lube, I like to use a bunch of it on the cylinder walls and cam lobes when I put a motor back together just incase. It smokes a bit when I start it but its lubed

Supremely bland-looking but ultra-solid and a pretty decent chassis for a midsizer. The KA is great DD powerplant material and one of my favorite 4-cylinders, despite being one of the most unpleasant-sounding fours ever made.

I've driven a few 93-01 5-speed Altimas and that chassis is a HOOT. Has the light and lively feel of a Mazda 626 or MX6 but with slightly higher build quality and more torque.

Like it's Mazda competitor its looks are very plain but you can get away with a lot of mechanical enjoyment without attracting any cops. These are among my top suggestions when someone asks me about used cars they should buy. 90-97 Accord is up there too.

Way solid. I prefer the looks to the 1G Alty, and like Jesda said, they're actually a fun car to drive.

Plus, there are some bolt-ons that perk up the KA nicely.

Short story, my buddy can not drive a stick, I've tried teaching him another guy has tried teaching him. He has it pretty down in my opinion a few more weeks and I feel like he'd get it. He is afraid he will get in an accident so the car is mine again.

I am driving it and LOVE it. I think I might keep this car forever.

I brought home a KA24DE in the trunk of it yesterday, I'm going to do seals, head gasket and timing chain on it and swap it into my buddies other Altima that has a broken chain and thrown rod.

1999 Altima makes a great truck! I have a hot waterheater catch pan under the engine so everything was clean after.
