Hello,

I'm new to the forum. Searched, but no luck finding the answer.

I just bought a 99 GXE 5 speed. It needs both front axles.

Is this an easy DIY job for an average backyard mechanic?

It also needs a clutch - is that job something I can do without any special tools?

Thanks

the axles arent a difficult job as long as you have the right tools.

you can download the field service manual from this site http://www.phatg20.net/modules...id=69 give you an idea of the parts involved

Thanks for the link. I'm going to give the axles a shot, not so sure about the clutch tough.

I replaced the left front axle last night. It was one of the easier axle replacements I've ever done, no real special tools, although I had to rent a 36mm socket for the axle nut.

you will not need any special tools to do the clutch. i once did a tranny in the parking lot of my apartment complex when i was in school, however it is not something that i would recommend, but still not that difficult.

Wow - now that's encouraging!

I'm concerned about getting the darn thing lifted and lined back up. Is it light enough to do without a transmision jack? Any other words of advice before I get started on it?
