Hey all,
I'm looking at picking up a 98 QX4, and the current owner says that the transmission shifts late, and thinks it may be a vacuum leak.
From what I understand, there is nothing else wrong with it, other than a bumper crack.
What would it take to assess and fix?
Because of the age, I don't want to run a risk of a huge bill for a 20 year ride.

Thanks in advance for any insight and info

Best way to assess it is do it in two steps:
1) Drive it yourself and see how it performs and don't accept at face value anything the seller tells you about the condition of the vehicle. If the seller claims certain repairs were done in the past, don't be shy about asking for receipts as proof.
2) If you like the car and can't find any faults then take it to a reputable Nissan/Infiniti dealer and pay for a complete inspection and diagnostic. It will be money well spent.

Well I bought it...went to bring it home...30 miles out of town the 4wd light started to flash...check engine light on....and the transmission started to grind ...BAD. Started to redline in 1st and stay there a while..drop HARD into 2nd and immediately to 3rd. All the while grinding worse and worse.

Have a great parts car if anyone wants to make an offer in Red Deer, Alberta.
Needs transmission ;)
