Hi everyone. I was told this place was the ultimate guide for Q45 info. I'm a member over at di.net and Jesda sent me here.

Just doing some basic maintenance on my mother in laws' 1998 Q45. Changing air filter (it was black, i'll post a pic later) Oil and oil filter. And a wanted to do plugs as well... but that looks like more of a challenge at the moment.

I did try the search function

Before i go pulling things apart that i don't need to, can someone tell me where the oil filter is exactly, and whats involved in changing the plugs?

Also, which is the best coolant to use?

Thanks in advance.

Lee

Thanks GQ... i eventually found it. Removed the CIA and that made it easy. There did appear to be a hose coming down from the general area, some oil came from it when i removed the filter.

You're asking for trouble removing the filter from the top. Large # of MAF sensor problems are due to flexing or disconnecting/reconnecting that item.

This may be the case with the first generation Q. I own a 99 Q and I have always removed the oil filter from the top. The MAF is not even in the way.

Dodgeyaussie, if you have problem changing the plugs, I can guide you through it.

It was the only way i could see to get it out. I might have to take you up on that offer on the plugs. From what i can see, i'm guessing i'll have to remove the plenum and go from there?

Dogeyaussie,

Don't need to remove the plenum to access the plugs.

Here is a high-level procedure to change the plugs.

Passenger side plugs:1. Remove the black plastic piece (3" W x 2' L) on top of the coil packs (after you remove this piece, you can see all four coil packs)2. Unplug all the coil pack connectors (push and pull to remove the connector)3. Remove the two screws that hold down each coil pack4. Remove the coil packs by pull it away from the engine5. Replace the plugs

Driver side plugs:1. Remove the air duct that connected to the throttle body housing2. Once you remove the air duct, you can access all the coil packs

Thanks VA I'll give it a go this weekend. BTW... i've been told to gap the plugs at .044. is that the correct gap?

I don't think you should ever gap platinum plugs, nor should you have to if they're the factory NGKs.

Exactly right! The manual states to remove it from underneath.
