1998 Q45 engine

I bought a used motor for my car that I was told it was a good motor but when we removed the valve cover I found two rocker arms that must have fell off. What would cause this?

This is not a common issue. I hope you can get your money back...

I'm going to guess that there was either a ton of spark knock causing the bolts to come loose, or someone started to dig into the engine to diagnose a problem, found something they didn't want to deal with, and closed it back up?

I didnt see any wrench marks on bolts and they where tight

There is no way that happened from "natural causes" as these motors are very well built. You have been scammed, as Heath said hope you can get your money back as someone has flat ripped you off.

Agreed.. Internally the VH series engines are very solid, easily seeing 250k miles before they need to be torn apart if they're well taken care of..
