1998 Pathfinder trunk stuck.. how to open

Original owner of a 98 Pathfinder. My trunk is stuck shut and I am not sure how to open. I removed the inside handle and the panel and exposed the mechanism. I sprayed down with wd40 multiple times. I've used a screw driver trying to pop it open. No luck. I pushed with my legs trying to force it open while someone held the handle up. No luck. It unlatches and moves half an inch or so then no more. I have pictures but its not clear how to post them in this forum. Anyone have knowledge of how this mechanism works or how to open this I would appreciate some advice. Thanks.
