I finally have my 98 2wd running good. I had surging idle issues and replaced the IACC, TPS and temp sensor. Ran good for a couple days then surge came back with intermittent chaotic rpms. Replaced all hoses, cap, wires, rotor and plugs and progressively worsened. Finally tore down the dist. and under the coil was metal shavings, bearings and part of the dust cover over the bearings. After rebuilding the dist. it runs great. Now when put in drive it runs out great in low but it doesnt want to hook up in 2nd and slips if you accelerate hard. However if I put it in low then manually shift to 2nd if shifts nice and firm and there is no slippage at all? Any ideas? Thanks, Steven

Sounds like the transmission is wearing down. A fresh change of ATF, a bottle of Lucas Transmission Fix, hope and see what happens. It may be time for a rebuilt transmission.

Ill take your advice, you helped me with a couple issues on my '89 4x4 pu a few years ago. Should I change the filter too? Ive read many threads saying never change your fluid or filter? Probably at that "what have I got to lose point, aye"? Thank You, again.
