1998 Nissan Altima, 4 cyl. Runs like a top most of the time. Sometimes when you stop at a light or intersection it dies. The RPM's jump between 500 and 1200 and it dies. Starts right up again but may try to die again. Have had injectors cleaned, fuel system checked, put in new fuel filter, new spark plugs and it continues to die at stop about 5 percent of the time. Any suggestions?:help

The first thing to check is always the basics. Check the base idle and timing settings first. At stops if the base idle is to low it will cause the car to stall. Also remove the dist. cap and check to see if oil is in the cap or runs out of the dist. The oil slings on to the trigger wheel and clogges the slights in the wheel an blocks the led's, light- emitting- diodes, from being seen and causes intermittent igntion failure which may or may not be picked up by the ecm. Unfortunatly there is no seal kit for this dist. leak and you will need to replace the dist. if this is the problem.

Take it to Autozone for a free diagnostics test before you go dropping $$$ on a distributor. let me know when you do.
