Not looking to replace it just looking for ideas to stabilize exhaust system and get rid of noise. Any ideas ?

Working on the same problem. Bought some OEM clamps and put them on the tailpipe before
muffer and it helped some but still noise. Went to Loews and got big hose clamps and put
about 8 on around heat shield and muffler/cat coverter etc. Made bigger clamps by putting them together in some cases. Helped more but still a little noise.

Somebody said motor mounts might be adding to problem but mine seem to be fine.

Noticed more noise when going up ramps in parking garage

If you figure it out please advise!

This is what I'm thinking. Look to cut off with angle grinder or sawzall any loose remnants. Get a folded up wad of heavy duty aluminum foil and stick it up under pipe at the bracket that is in the center in front of rear axle. Not sure how to clamp it down but was thinking 2 large exhaust clamps criss crossed if they make them large enough and aren't prohibitive in cost.

You dont want anything that will catch on fire. I have seen foil burn on a grill before.
You might think about using JB Weld too.

Make of note of when and where it is rattling. Then you might figure out how to fix it.
It is my wifes 98 that is making the noise. The car has been quiet somewhat-because SHE
is not making noise about it. Next option might be to replace the rubber band holders but
it looks like a difficult job.

Not so concerned about foil catching because there still is heat shield at that location and I don't think that it gets glowing hot anyways. Foil is good because it is moldable and is pretty heat resistant. I will use HEAVY DUTY FOIL. This is my wifes car so it is VERY NOISY. You must have a better edition.

I tightened up the shield bolts too and added some jb weld so they wouldnt work loose agian
Scared to tighten up manifold bolts-very rusty and might break-might be last resort to do this too
