Hello I have a 1998 nissan maxima, which ive had for a about a year now and have always had a cold start problem. When the temperature drops to low degrees i have to leave the key on the on switch for about 10 minutes then starts cranking the engine and pumping the gas pedal for a couple times before it finally turns on. Even in hot weather sometimes i have to pump the gas so it does not stall and die. This problem is usually worst in the cold and sometimes my cars battery dies in the proccess. What could be the problem? I have a code throwing the EGR Valve or Purge Valve would that be it? Or would it be a fuel pump becuase the fuel pump the car has is from ebay a $20 one.

:welcome: to NICO!

Sounds like a lot going on there... How cold do you mean?

You would need to check fuel pressure to see if the pump is the culprit. If the engine is flooding, you're better off just holding the pedal to the floor until it starts. That tells the ECU to stop sending fuel to the engine until it starts.

If, by chance, the EGR were stuck open - that could be your problem, but they usually don't fail that way.

Well usually like below 30 degrees or 25 degrees it just starts to have problems turning on. Like i crank the engine and nothing so i let the ignition switch on the on position for about 10 minutes then i try again and i hit the gas pedal and sometimes the battery almost dies untill it turns on.

Might also check the fuel regulator

i pulled the hose from the regulator to see if it would leak or spit out anything but it was good
