I have a 98 infiniti qx4 that idles high in park and sound like something is grinding... almost as if the emergency brake is engaged. when truck is put in gear, it continues with the grinding noise and then the noise and pressure eventually go away. Truck will shift into all gears. I did have the engine code read, but it was just a P1440 evap reading.

What does your transmission fluid look like?Has it ever been changed? Yes, how long ago? No, nows a good time.Check trans fluid when trans is warmed up.

Describe the grinding noise in more detail. Is it only at startup? How long does it go after it begins? Does it go up and down with engine speed?

What "pressure" are you talking about?

Does the transmission shift properly at all throttle positions? 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and full throttle. How does the transmission act in a full throttle situation? Does it hesitate, or does it kick down and shift as normal.

Grinding doesn't necesarily have to come from the transmission.

Can you hear the noise from outside the truck or is it only evident from inside?
