Has anyone encountered water pouring from the four holes on the bottom of the trunk lid? This is caused by water passing through the space between the red plastic rear reflectors housing which runs the width of the trunk lid, and the sheet metal above it. There is a gasket, but the rear reflector pops away from the trunk in the middle, which allows water to enter. The backup lights fill with water which pours from the four holes. I believe this is a design flaw of the plastic reflector which might be too long, causing it to release in the middle. Has any one seen or knows where to get the factory 1998 i30 manual???

Gilart:

I think the reason you havent seen a reply is that we aren't real clear what the question is beyond having seen it ourselves (we also have a MAxima/I30 forum here on this site, that you might wanna try)

Have we seen it too?Do we know a fix?Or do we think its not a problem?

Please, tell us more.

I think the "Have we seen it too" is the question i'm asking.Do you know a fix?As I stated in my orignal post. I think it's a design flaw.A buildup of water in the backup light cavity and then putting the car in reverse might cause an electrical short, which might cause all kinds of nasty problems. I think the key words are "design flaw".:thinker

We have replaced quite a few of those on the I-30. There is a tech bulletin regarding the issue. If you replace it yourself, just make sure you have the four plastic retainers that hold the center of the lens to the trunk lid firmly in place, otherwise the new one will do the same thing in the future.

The only information in the bulletin only states to replace the lens assembly, and doesn't note that there are any changes in the design. I have looked and could'nt see any differences in the replacement lens, although that is a visible view.

Also I havent seen or heard of any returns for that item after the replacement.
