I've searched for lots on info on EGR codes and troubleshooting but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I paid for a diagnostic reading on my "service engine soon" light and they told me I needed the EGR System cleaned. And a new gasket. $175 estimate. The gasket is $1.99 at NAPA.

If I can locate and get to this EGR Valve I'll clean the system myself. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

it is below the throtle body. it has a vacume line hooked up to it. it is tucked down in there pretty good, and is hard to see. it's round, with the vacume line on the top. good luck!

Yeah I found it. jt, thanks for the pic, that's cool, exactly what I was looking for. I've been able to move the plunger up and down with my finger and could spray some carb cleaner in there, but the light remains on.

I even tried to push it up while idling the car at 2000rpm for a few minutes. I read that on here somewhere as a possible fix. ???

I noticed the plunger working during acceleration of the engine, so it's not completely not working.

I also didn't want to pull on the vacuum hoses too much because I thought they might rip. ?? Felt kinda dry. I think I'll get a new vacuum hose then pull the old off, no matter how much force it requires.

Thing looks like a pain in the butt to get too though. I don't wanna have to take it off.

Do you still have the picture of the EGR for I30 that you posted in 2004?

I know this is too much to expect, but I thought I'd ask?

Thanks

if so please send to [email protected]

The EGR valve tube is most likely clogged with carbon not allowing EGR flow, you have to remove the tube and clean the passages. The EGR temp sensor is what sends the signal to the ECM to confirm the engine has EGR flow. The sensor voltage will drop when you have EGR flow. You would be amazed at how many EGR valves are replaced and the code keeps coming back due to improper diagnois. I would get the proper diagnois, many times folks retrieve trouble codes and start replacing parts, later to find out they may have other issues. Vacuum hoses, shorted and open wiring, loose or bad connections??? At our dealer we perform the cleaning then do a three part BG induction clean to remove the deposits in the plenum as well.
