The other night the alternator went on my pickup. Up to this point everything worked perfectly. During the drive (limp) home with the bad alternator, the speedometer quit working, only the speedometer, all other gauges and odometer still worked. I replaced the alternator last night, started it up, speedometer still not working, but now the battery light is on and the brake light, as before all other gauges are working perfectly. I checked the output of the alternator it is at approx. 15 v nice and steady, battery is good at 13.6 volts. I am quite confused by this, as I have read about the instrument cluster issues on these trucks, and was under the assumption that if the speedometer goes the rest go too. Any help would be appreciated

Upon further checking, I was mistaken and the odometer is not working... and the check engine light has come on now.

Disconnect the battery for 20 mins and reconnect and see if the problems persist...that'll reset the ECU at least.....

Electronic Speedo, right? If the speedo isn't working, I'd imagine the odometer would quit with it. See about finding the error code, if only it saying the speedo isn't working. Might just give you a starting point to fix this. As for the lights staying on, not sure on that one. The ECU reset seems like a good idea right now.
