Hey all,

I was getting several different EVAP related codes. Now I am down to just one and it I can not get rid of it.

P0446 EVAP Emisson Control System Vent Circuit Malfunction

I have tried everything I know to fix it. I have replaced gas cap. I have removed the two Solenoid valves near the service port under the hood and removed the solenoid on the EVAP cannister. Hooked 12V to them all three and made sure they are working. I just don't know where to go from here. I don't understand the CIRCUIT part of this code. I was getting a code that said Canister Vent Control Valve but that one is gone.

Thanks in advance,

EZ

Your vent valve is sticking. Even though you applied 12 volts and you heard it click that does not mean its good. Either the pental is stuck or the solonoid does not enrgize the first time voltage is applied. The vent control valve is only for OBDII diagnostics and has no porpose or function for evap operation. The vent valve remains open all the time except in one instance, When it is performing a self test on the system for leaks. When that occurs the ecm supplies a ground to the valve. The valve always has power when the key is on. When the ground is supplied it closes the valve till the test is complete then the ECM releases the ground and the valve opens back up.

When performing the test the valve should open the minute you apply power and ground. If it does not open on that first application it is bad. Also you need to look inside the holes and verify the pentle inside moves up when you apply the voltage.
