Hi Gang:It idles 1550 or so when driving will not calm down until I stop the car. Going around small corners is scary? What would cause the idle to rise when driving? Mike

Generally, when you press the gas, the RPMs go up.

ok, let me clarify. I start the engine. It revs down to about, oh, 800. I drive the car it will NOT idle down i.e. speed up to 55, let off the gas, push in the clutchin...the revs SHOULD go back to 800. The idle stays at about 1550 until the car stops i.e. I apply the brakes. So, if I'm driving around town, it is like it PULLs me around a corner, because it is trying t5o maintain an idle then of 1550 or so. I disconnect/reconnect the front O2 sensor,v and I also noticed it makes no difference.

Thanks!!Mike

Could possibly be your throwout bearing isn't letting the clutch disengage.Could also be a problem with the slave not doing it's job either.

No, it is an idle issue. Once I puch the throttle and the car is moving, it wants to always idle high, until it stops moving. Only then will it go back to normal. Throttle is closing properly; how does it adjust the idle when not rolling?Mike

The Idle control Valve could be sticking. The car is designed to increase idle speed when the AC is on and when the powersteering is under load, such as making a turn. The ICV is a bear to get out, setting just behind the power steering, unit, but you could try cleaning it out.
