KYB SR Specials. One importer in the US.

It's the springs that give it the height, not the shocks and struts. Lowering does have consequences that have to be addressed if you want tires to last.

If the ignition key is chipped, you will have to go to the dealer.

Sorry you for sure have to buy from the stealership. The 97's have a chip in the key, you can cut a key but the car will NOT start.

The KYB SR Specials are the only way to go. There is someone sellign them for like $500 bucks which is a screaming deal, I put them on my Q and they rock (I lowered with Tein Lowering Springs).

There's a guy on ebay selling what he claims are authentic, chipped keys. Any locksmith can cut it but only the dealership can program it.

I bought one for 30 bucks and had it cut for 3. I have yet to schlep it to the dealer for progamation.

Can you give a link or web address for the KYB SR specials. I have a 97Q with 62000 miles right now and things are getting loose under my suspension.

On a 12 year old Q41 shocks will be a minor problem compared to all the rubber and rubber isolated suspension components.Just because the vehicle has not been driven much [62k ~~ 5k per year] doesn't mean it has not continued to rot. Especially if the salt is not washed off rubber daily.

You'll need gaiters and front bearings at a minimum. Worn shocks don't cause suspension looseness, just undamped vertical motion. There are other components you will need to replace. Upper anti-sway bar link, tension rod bushings, steering rack bushings, at the minimum.

Along these lines, and since every Q out there will eventually need to have this work done, is there a decent write up/thread which someone has done which walks through the replacement of rubber front end bits which are reasonable easy to do? I'm trying to compile a list of bits which are easily replaceable without using a heavy duty lift or specialized tools.

I am unable to find anything other than anecdotal info.

While my car has had much of the front end replaced, I'm quite sure that there are other bits which are long in the tooth and ready to be heaved at cats, both stray and domesticated. I ax this question because it is my intent to rerubberize my ride this spring as soon as the glacier subsides.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Not sure if you got your key yet, but like everyone said you do have to go to the dealership to have additional keys programmed! I see that you're in Md, I have a friend that used to work at JBA Infiniti on Rt 40 in Baltimore. If you ask one of the Garage boys, they might be able to hook you up with the programming for a small fee but you will have to buy the key from the parts dept. I had to do it in order to have my key installed in the box for my remote start. Good luck..
