1997 Q45 Service Engine Soon light is on

I was driving home today and my service engine soon light is on, do anybody know what cause this to come on. Is this telling me that there is something wrong with my engine or is it just a light I need to reset. Also how do you reset it

It is not a "service engine light", it is a malfunction indicator light that only illuminates when the computer detects a FAULT in one of the systems it monitors and controls.

Resetting it without researching the cause and correcting the issue is not the way to handle the problem unless you are in denial.

Have the codes read at a service provider and attend to the subsystems indicated by the specific code to correct the issue.........ony then do you reset the lamp to extinguish it. Autozone and others will read it for......FREE

ok went to autozone to check the code, it came back with code P0400EGR VALVE MALFUNCTION, How much does it cost to get replace

EGR valve rarely fails, it is very common to have plugged up EGR passages or even a split/missing vacuum hose on the egr valve. Search this site for EGR valve, you will find many writeups on how to fix the issue, some with photos.

You don't state what previous intake path maintenance you have performed, but I can guarantee you at the minimum the EGR tube in your plenum is clogged if you havent addressed it.

True I never address that. The code is EGR FLOW ERROR, How will that cost me to get repaired..

Almost free if you get the gaskets from Joe and do it yourself. A lot more if not as it is labor intensive compared to cost of gaskets and cleaner.

Its the hose in the back of the egr valve, It split in half so I have to get the part from the dealer or can I ge it from any parts store?
