Hey everybody! I've been reading some of the posts on this site and am very intrigued by some of the forum topics! I have been doing research on some upgrades I could do for my 1997 Q.

I was planning on putting Denso iridium plugs in it, a JWT pop charger, a new rear muffler(possibly flowmaster, magnaflow, or a stillen bolt on replacement) and possibly a chip modification.

Could some of the Q45 experts in the forum give me some tips on what to do to get the most power out of this car without doing anything drastic like adding NOS? PLEASE HELP!!

Welcome to the club! Reading the previous posts will reveal to you that almost all the modifications you are contemplating are a waste of money, may in fact decrease performance, or even imperil the longevity of your car. There is some debate on the exhaust system as one member reported (uncorrborated) increases by using an after market muffler. It is a well known fact the the first generation (1990 - 1996) Q45s had straight through duals, and so do not benefit significantly from after market muffler modifications (flowmaster stainless).

The best bang for your buck is to restore it to as new running condition. The posts will tell you how and what needs to be done. NGK platinum sparkplugs work the best.

The JDM Cimas did have a rear tower strut bar available that probably would reduce rear suspension flex and improve handling.

Welcome to NICO!!!

Ditto what Brian said. A friend and fellow NICO member here in Phoenix is in the middle of designing a true cold air intake for the 97-01 Q's. Skip the Denso plugs, as you will be inviting trouble - Replace with factory-spec NGK's and you'll see an improvement in power. I'm on the fence as far as the exhaust. Looking at the 97 system, I'm inclined to think it could use some freeing up... Of course, this will cost you some quietness, but I'd go with a stainless Ultraflow... Same setup as the more expensive Stillen unit. POP charger is a true waste - Sucking in hot underhood air negates the TINY increase in flow.

Anyway, let's see some pics of the Q, and enjoy our little site!

Hey! Thanks for your help. That sounds like a good plan. So you think all i should do is replace the plugs and restore it instead of making any mods? I want to get as much power as I can out of this thing! Anyways, I am lovin the Q's. My grandmother has my step dad's 93 Q and i take that out every once in awhile. I am getting this 97 Q, my step dad's car, and then he is ordering a 2003 this week! I'll have to play around w/ all three of them in one day for fun. Please let me know if you hear anything more of the true cold air kit! Thanks a lot.

Do NOT use the Denso iridium plugs. I believe that they only last for 10000 miles. I spend 3 hours to replace the 8 spark plugs for mine. You don't want to do that every 3 months. I used the original NGK's which should last for another 60000 miles. My '97 Q45T also had a factory rear tower strut bar installed. I think your should has it too.
