Hey, Everybody. I'm looking to replace my knock sensors and harnesses soon. Debating whether to do it myself or pay too much money for a shop to do it.
I'm confident I can do it, but I need to know where to find all these gaskets. Several suppliers have a few of them (intake manifold gasket set, EGR mounting gasket), but I still can't find the right Throttle Body Mounting Gasket or IACV Mounting Gasket.
I'm on the WA coast if that is relevant to anybody local, otherwise, online suppliers will suffice.

I have an estimate from one shop that ran nearly $1000 for the knocks and the job, and that's just not okay.

2 knocks and harnesses run about 300, gaskets so far are about 80... I have the FSM and a video of how to reinstall everything (can work backward off that)

I would buy them from everythinginfiniti.com, which is Infiniti of Scotsdale, this way you get all OEM parts but WAY cheaper than you could buy them locally. These guys usually know their stuff (call them don't order on-line). I have bought plenty of parts from them, a few times I have used their price to make my local guy at least get within $10-20 but given that you are going to need a load worth buying mail order (also no tax).

Back in the day when this board was hopping they used to give an additional discount if you mentioned NICO, still worth a shot.

I agree with Jeff, get them from infinitipartsusa.com (same as everything infiniti). All those gaskets you're requiring should be pretty cheap and in stock.

Send an email to Dan Smith: [email protected] , tell him Wes from NICO sent you. He's old school with the old Q45 stuff so he knows whats up and will take good care of you.

Knock sensors you can find super cheap on ebay. All nissan's from 90-02ish use the exact same sensor, so they're easy to find crazy cheap. Part number is 22060-30P00. Something like this is what you want, you can price-shop on ebay. You'll still want to get the harness from Dan, though. I think infinitipartsusa.com has the KS for like $150 each, so finding them for $30-$40 each on ebay is a nice savings.

Hey guys thanks for the replies.
I found the Knock sensors with harnesses at about 20-30 bucks on eBay.
I haven't managed to check out infinitparts yet but will do that soon.
I'm taking her to a local shop Monday (took the Benz there for some work and they don't charge too high) for an estimate, but if they give me an exact run down of the parts, I'll tell them I can find them cheaper - maybe they accept the parts I bring and I pay just labor.

not to disagree with Wes, but be very very careful what you pick off of fleabay.
at a minimum, make sure those knocks come in a genuine grey nissan box with the 22060-30p00 part number clearly printed and matching.
you will find listings that 'match' to the part number, and may even be stamped on the case with the jecs unisia (OEM) marking. But go a step further and make sure it has the hamburger (nissan logo) stamping as well.
deals are great, but if the part pedigree is not, then that is a boatload of labor to do the job again to fix a part that you saved $50 on......

Definitely agree with you there.. You definitely don't want to price-shop there.. That being said, I've bought those sensors from ebay a couple different times and everything seemed legit..

As a compromise between factory prices - $214.86 each from IOS  and the wild wild west of eBay - you can get Hitachi knock sensors at Rock Auto for $43.79 each. Google for a 5% off code to enter in to the "how did you hear about us" box at checkout. I believe Hitachi makes the sensors for Nissan, so it's a safe bet vs. the possibility of getting counterfeit sensor that's really a resistor in a knock sensor shaped case.

I would hope an outfit as large as RA would have some way of being sure they're selling genuine Hitachi parts. I know the Hitachi alternator I bought from them for my truck was drop shipped directly from the Hitachi facility in KY, so it doesn't get much more direct than that.

This is sort of my new thing since factory parts prices have gotten so out of hand in the last couple of years... try to figure out who makes the part for Nissan, then buy it instead. So far Bando Belts and Hitachi Alternators have worked out pretty well for me.

Okay that said I'll take RA into my account, since it's still much cheaper than $700 at the shop to just buy parts and do it myself.

I think the RA is the way to go. When you have the mechanic do the gaskets and KS you should also replace the spark plugs. That will cost you just a little bit for the parts but is all the same labor to get in there...it is mostly dismantling a ton of plastic parts on the top of the engine, so while in there may as well do those too. Use the original NGK's, everyone that tried using other spark plugs ended up causing themselves issues.

JECS is the OEM for the knocks.

JECS? Never heard of that brand. Not much come up in a google search for them either...can you say what that stands for?

Can I do the spark plugs myself? Or is it too much of a hassle?

I also blew out my radiator a little while ago and found a shop to put that in for super cheap, about 350. That's going in next week. Same shop quoted the KS labor at 250 so that's pretty cool.

I emailed Dan and informed him of my situation. He says the KS from the factory are still going to be in the 200 range, but at least the gaskets are cheaper than some places I've looked.

You can do them yourself, but you have to dig all the same parts out that they will be removing of the KS...so the additional labor to do the plugs should be very small when they are already doing the other job.

Good price on the radiator, what is the shop labor rate in Indiana, I probably don't want to see the answer to this question but I had to ask.

I see some of the old timer Nissan products there but I still find no reference to buy any of their products on-line or anywhere else.

no like Heath said, Hitachi bought them out. So I suppose a hitachi branded KS might be the same recipe as JECS. hard to ever know for sure.

If anyone is interested, here's a quick history of JECS:

JECS Corporation ( formerly Japan Electrical Control Systems Co Ltd) is an automotive components company headquartered in Isesaki, Gunma, Japan and a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi. Its principal products are electronic control units, software, semiconductors, mechatronics, resin molding, inspection technology and material analysis.

JECS was formed in June 1973.[1] It was a joint venture between Robert Bosch GmbH, Nissan Motor Co. and Diesel Kiki Co., Ltd.. It enabled Nissan to use Bosch's engine control technology, and gave Bosch access to the Japanese market. JECS later expanded to manufacture many other automotive parts besides EFI systems.

Radiator and Trans Cooler in for 550 as well as all radiator hoses replaced. I'm pretty happy, my wallet isn't. I think in a couple months I'll take a look at KS and Spark Plugs.

My only new concern is how do I tell the ECU that the spark plugs and the KS are new? I know these cars have a computer so I want to make sure it's getting the right readings and making the right calculations.

Okay, that's simple enough.
