My Q45 was running great when I parked it 4 weeks ago. Now it cranks but won't start. After spraying starting fluid in the air box the car starts for 5 seconds then dies so I assume it is the fuel system. All of the fuses are good. I need to know where the port is to hook up my fuel pressure gauge and what are logical steps to diagnose the system. Thanks.

Why would you spray starting on a fuel injected car?

It might be flooded, Why don't you hold the throttle completly open while you crank it and see.

Or the fuel pump might have given up then which you should replace it along with the fuel pump control unit.

There is no port to test fuel pressure like Furds or other domestic cars. You need to tee it in after the fuel filter.

Thanks for replying Paul. I sprayed starting fluid in it to deduce that it was a fuel problem and not a spark problem. By it firing up and running I knew it was not a spark issue and had to be a fuel delivery issue. I did crank it at WOT and it would not start. I'm not familiar with these cars and can't find any manuals for them in stores so I was looking for advice on a sequence of diagnosis before I started changing parts. Any help would be appreciated.

The 1997 FSM posted here is incomplete. The 1998 applies for the most part.

It would be much wiser to T into the fuel line as it goes into the fuel rails rather than after the filter due to the latter's location.

Report back with operational psi at idle and WOT.

With E10 [and water] you muxt crank and run the engine every few days. Failure to do this will allow the water to come out of suspension and rust and corrode the fuel system.

We see lots of this now that Georgia has switched to E10 [March 08],........Lexus and Infiniti fuel pumps frozen where there were never problems until last winter.

as of right now i am dealing with a similar situation. I parked my 1997 Q45 after coming home one night. Then the next afternoon when i crank it, it will start, but it will die after a few seconds. i live in long beach, ca so the cold really dont think is an issue. My drive way has a slight dip in it, butt cant see that really being an issue. I am just thinking the fuel pump is dead. any ideas fellas?

Your car has OBD2 so I would check the codes with a OBD2 code reader.

But the basic things needed to start and run and engine are: Fuel, Spark AKA Timing and air (MAF...).

Stamdard practive when car is purchased without well qualified marque tech inspection and willful ignorance of the Infiniti dealer performed service history to replace all fluids and filters, and all commonly used and degraded parts such as brake pads and almost anything with rubber in it.
