with trans in any gear..... able to roll car ....acts like in neutral. worked fine prior, no problem with clutch..hydraulics appear to work fine? is there a sensor/switch on trans? shifting through gears while parked...sounds OK.

Does it move normally when driving? Like, your driveshaft isn't broken or anything is it?

started to remove trans to check clutch assmebly but ran into trouble with 1 (top) starter bolt..... impossible to get to ....well at least I am stumped....removed front seats , shifter, most bell housing bolts, got drive shaft ready to remove from trans, also removed passenger tire to view top starter bolt....can see top bolt but can't figure how to get to it , tons of stuff in way. Coming from top seems like having to remove too much stuff, especially messing with manifold components.
Tried socket / Universal / multiple extensions....just can't get good angle.....frustrated. Gave up put everything back together. Posted this help request.

Background:
don't own truck yet...... agreed with owner if clutch was only problem would buy for $900..........if more issues probably won't purchase. hoping its clutch....not sure with current situation. hoped someone could share similar problem experience. Talked to 1 mechanic he said definitely clutch needs to be replaced?

The input shaft has probably broke in the transmission. Is there fluid coming out if the bellhousing? Remove the starter and you can come from front of truck with a 3 ft extension and 14mm wobble socket and get that bolt out

Probably cheaper to replace trans with used one

Yup. Those trannies should be pretty cheap.

$900 for truck + $400-500 trans = $1600 + labor .....is it still a good deal.
bed of truck rusted through in places, all else OK.......160+ miles
feels like premium price?

Yeah you pretty much have to remove the trans. I wouldn't pay $900 for a rusty non-driver. That's a $500 car at best.
