Every now and then my heat would pop on and stay on for as long as the car was running. But most of the time is just shoots cold air at me. I was told by a mechanic that there is air getting into my coolant and I just recently had a new thermostat put in. It's getting cold so if anyone even has a clue let me know. Thanks.

check your heater control valve. since you have gxe (slide bar temp control), note the heater valve position when the knob is full cold (blue side), then move it to 'hot' and see if the cable on the valve near the firewall is moving.

PS- the heater control valve is between two heater hoses.
