Alright, I have been trying to figure out what is going on with this maxima I bought about a week or so ago, the person who sold it to me got rid of it because it doesn't shift properly anymore. He assumed the transmission is done, and he may be right, but I want to get peoples opinion as I am going to be trying to fix this thing up.

So far it has been to two garages for a quick diagnosis, one of them told me my transmission is done (but he does mostly body work so he wasnt really sure) and the other one told me that it is the shift rod that needs to be changed. Someone else has suggested that it may be the bushings as well.

Originally I was able to get it into first and second but not third, not really fourth, fifth or reverse. The problem was that when it was in gear the shifter would be able to move left and right as if the car was still in neutral. Also there did appear to be a gear engaging where fourth should be but it would always stall when I tried to move for stopped (yeah clearly).

After the most recent garage I was told that it is probably just the shift rod but he does not know if it is the transmission too, now I can't get into first, but I can however get into 2nd and reverse haha.

Here is a video I made to show the problem.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v..._page
