1997 Maxima 5 speed, stuck in reverse

1997 Maxima 5 speed, stuck in reverse.

Car was shifting fine right up until the incident. The clutch engages fine but the gear stick refuses to move out of reverse.

I got underneath the car while it was on jackstands with my brother trying to moev the shifter and I can see the linkages trying to move but they only slightly twitch. The linkage/knuckle right before it enters the transmission is trying to move out but it can't.

Please help - he needs this vehicle for work.

wow, so it doesn't even come out of gear if you try to take it out with the car not running?

...never heard of that before. How hard are you trying to take it out of gear?

Whether the car was off/on, it was not moving out of reverse.

Anyways, through scouring the net and several other forums involving others cars with the same prob - we did what was suggested to those... have someone push the car to get it rolling forward, then keep pressure on the shifter to try pushing it out of gear as you lightly engage the clutch (just let it barely engage)

Boom, popped out of gear right away. Strange I know.
