1997 Maxima 5 speed, stuck in reverse

My brother recently bought a 1997 Maxima GLE and last night when he was backing away from the house he couldn't get it out of reverse. It's like it's stuck there.

You can turn on and off the car no sweat, the clutch still engages great. We made sure the clutch pedal was pressing the clutch switch (I don't think this matters for trying to shift from reverse)

Any ideas? Thanks fellas.
