I bought my 97' J 30 when it had 34,000 miles. I started noticing that it was hard to start and got a tune up. But still, from time to time, the car is hard to start. I have to floor it to get it to start up. Then it runs fine for a while, then the same thing happens again. I have never been stranded anywhere and I have 85,000 miles on the car. But lately, it has been difficult to start on a more frequent basis. Should I get a Consult Diagnosis or does someone out there know what this might be about?

Thanks!

Flooring it on a modern fuel injected car? This sounds like a fuel pump or fuel injectors. Just a hunch. Does the J30 have the same fuel control module setup that the Q does? Anyone know?

It has basically the same setup....... If you can hear a humming (at idle) from the trunk area, its most likely the pump.... Other than that, it could be a clogged filter (had the same problem on my Q, and later led to fuel pump replacement), or leaky injectors...... All 3 are unlikely (to me, unless you got some nasty gas) since you havent even reached the replacement time (which is around 30k).......
