Hi, I have a 1997 Infiniti QX4. Runs great but the SES light just came on. Can anyone tell me how to check what this is referring to? How can I get a code from the vehicle? How can I reset it if there isn't anything wrong. thanks in advance. All help welcome.

Go to Autozone, they'll check it for free. And reset it for you as well.

Yes autozone has free OBD2 scanners for rent, and they can do it for you if you like. Really all you do is plug it in under the steering wheel, and turn the key to ON (without starting the engine) and it will tell the code and then you have the choice to clear it out.

Thanks for the prompt response but I do not live near an Autozone. Is there anyway to read this code myself? I live in a small town. Thanks again.

Just looked at a map, and WOW you must have a lot of off-road terrain available at your disposal!! Lucky!

You need to pull the ECU out from under the dash and set it to diagnostics mode by turning the screw clockwise waiting a couple of seconds then turning it back counter clockwise. This will cause the check engine light to start blinking. Those blinks are the codes that are stored. Come back with how many short blinks/long blinks and ill tell you what your code is.

WERD. . not to mention, Yellowknife is the start of the Ice Road.

Can you drive on that in the winter or is it only for the truckers? I'd wanna slide around on it.

Thanks for the response. There are some ice roads that are open to public use. They are pretty cool.
