Hi, all!

I recently bought a 1997 Infiniti Q45 locally (non-dealer), and it definitely has its problems.

There is a major power steering problem:

1. The wheels sound like they're grinding when I turn,

2. The power steering fluid does not appear to be empty (i.e., no leak),

3. The steering wheel shakes hard right after turning, and

4. The wheels squeak whenever I turn or hit anything on the road (e.g., pothole, sewer grate, large sticks, etc.).

The problem does not occur when I am in Reverse. It only happens when I am in Drive.

Apart from all the problems it has, it is a great car and I don't want to get rid of it. And, being on a college student's budget, I can't go to a mechanic until the issue becomes severe.

Any help is gratefully appreciated.

Thank you very much!

:welcome: to NICO!

It sounds like you have a number of problems going on. On my short list of things to check, I would include power steering rack bushings. You can learn a lot about your Q's suspension and steering in the factory service manual - available at www.infinitiservicemanual.com
