My Infiniti Q45 was losing power (could not accelerate at times) and the check engine light was on, so I brought it into my local mechanic who diagnosed the problem as a bad mass air flow meter (no output). The part is extremely expensive ($488). Since I didn't do the computer diangosis myself, I want to make sure that they are replacing the correct part. Could the problem actually be something else (such as a dirty PCV valve), or is it pretty clear that this type of problem arises from a faulty air flow meter? Thanks!

Hopefully he checked the connection first. I am sure they fail, but can't remember a case on this board.

Tell us more about the mileage, maintenance, and location.

You don't use a K&N filter or pop charger, do you?

Welcome to the board. This post may be better answered in the Infiniti Mechanics forum.

Are you refering to the Mass air Flow Sensor or MAF as we call it? This is right after the Air in-take box and is a square shaped box that looks like it's sitting on the air intake hose? If so, you can find them cheaper and there is one right now on e-bay for $150 bucks almost brand new. Check E-Bay "Infiniti parts" it's on page 18 or so. If it is the MAF you're talking about I'll help you find one cheaper because $488 is alot of duckies...

Thanks!! My Infiniti has approximately 94,000 miles, it has been maintained properly since we purchased it at 49,000 miles and is driven in Southern California. No, it does not have a K&N filter or pop charger.

Thanks again and I'll post this in the mechanics forum. I wish I would have found this board sooner.

It is a 1997 Q45. I did notice that the TCS light was on along with the check engine light. Is there any reason for this? Thanks!

I would assume it is an electrical connection at the MAF. Check it first before committing to a new one.
